Sometimes trimming the fat and losing excess weight is a little more exorcizing, than exercising…

“Cut the weights,” I said. “Let them go.”

At that moment, three balloons floated up into the sky. The one on the left drifted off, but remained in sight. It loped over the house, the maple out front and slowly went higher and higher until it fell out of sight. Last I saw it, it was over Kip’s house on the corner.

All the while, the middle balloon was stuck our evergreen. I was so concerned it would pop and just plop down on the branch below. As it stayed, floundering, a small gust of wind nudged it out and it made its way up and up. It was almost as if the wind whispered a reminder to that middle one, “there’s more for you to do. Go!”

In the midst of the commotion the first two made, we almost missed the third. It shot out, as soon as we cut the weights. There it went, higher and higher, to a place only it could reach or understand. No whispering wind needed there, I thought. I scolded myself for almost missing it. But in the end, I was there for all three and, as my husband hugged my shoulders, I knew it would be alright.
